What works:
Priyanka Chopra delivers a strong action performance as Ercell “Bloody Mary,” a retired pirate forced back into violence when her past resurfaces. The movie features brutal sword fights, muskets, and intense hand-to-hand combat that make the action scenes the main highlight. The pirate setting also feels refreshing since modern pirate films are quite rare.

What doesn’t work:
The biggest issue is the predictable story. The plot follows a familiar revenge formula and doesn’t offer many surprises. Some characters, including the villain, feel underdeveloped, and the film occasionally suffers from uneven CGI and artificial-looking sets.

Overall, The Bluff is an entertaining action watch, mainly because of Priyanka’s performance and the gritty fight sequences, but the weak script prevents it from becoming a truly memorable pirate film.

👍 Pros

  • Strong lead performance – Priyanka Chopra Jonas delivers an intense and convincing action performance.
  • Gritty action scenes – The sword fights gun battles and close combat sequences are brutal and entertaining.
  • Unique pirate setting – Modern pirate films are rare so the Caribbean backdrop feels fresh.
  • Fast-paced action – The film moves quickly and doesn’t spend too much time dragging the story.

👎 Cons

  • Predictable storyline – The revenge plot follows a very familiar formula with few surprises.
  • Weak character development – Some characters including the villain played by Karl Urban feel underwritten.
  • Uneven visual quality – Some CGI and sets look artificial in certain scenes.
  • Limited emotional depth – The movie focuses more on action than character storytelling.
